FLOOR TILE REMOVAL

Asbestos Floor Tile Removal Kent. The Layer Under Your Renovation.

What Is Hiding Under the Carpet in Older Kent Properties

Asbestos floor tile removal is one of the most frequent jobs we handle across Kent. Nine-inch vinyl tiles bedded on black bitumen adhesive are a common find under carpets in 1950s and 1960s kitchens and hallways, and both the tile and the adhesive can contain asbestos.

Lifted Carefully, Cleared Completely, Fully Documented

Tiles are lifted whole by hand only. No dry scraping, no grinding, no heat at any stage. Where adhesive is in scope the same controls apply and the subfloor is returned fit for the fitter.

FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions

We have found old tiles under the carpet. Is that something to worry about?

Not immediately. Tiles that are intact and lying flat beneath a floor covering release virtually no fibre. The important rule is not to sand, grind, break or heat them under any circumstances. Take a photograph, replace the covering, and arrange an asbestos survey so any decision is based on actual results rather than guesswork.

In many cases yes, provided the tiles are in sound condition, lying flat and the installation requirements of the new floor permit it. This is a recognised management approach when it is properly documented. Where the new floor needs a clean, level substrate, removal is the correct answer. We will tell you clearly which situation applies to yours.

Yes. Bitumen adhesives from the 1950s to 1970s regularly contained asbestos fibre, which is why we test both layers independently as a matter of course. Any quote that does not account for the adhesive is not giving you the full picture.

A typical domestic kitchen or hallway in Kent is completed within a day, including the clean-down. Larger areas in commercial or communal settings are assessed at survey and phased accordingly.

Clear the room, keep the door shut and do not sweep or vacuum. Call us straight away. We will advise the same day, arrange air testing where warranted and remediate the area properly so the renovation can restart with certified written reassurance rather than ongoing uncertainty.

Non-licensed asbestos removal covers most floor tile work where controlled hand methods are used, generally falling into the non-licensed or NNLW categories. No HSE licence is required but trained operatives are not optional. The applicable category is confirmed in your written quotation alongside any notifications we will handle on your behalf.

Yes. Both layers are sampled in one visit, analysed separately at the laboratory and returned as a single written report. One appointment, two confirmed answers, and prices for each outcome ready for you to consider.

Controlled hand methods are specifically designed to protect the subfloor. Where the screed is aged and fragile, we identify that at survey and agree the expected finish condition with your flooring requirements in mind. The handover standard is specified in the quotation before work begins.

We carry out asbestos removal across Kent, covering kitchens and hallways in Maidstone and Canterbury, ex-shop units in Dartford and Folkestone, and communal areas across the county. The same tested-first, no-grinding approach applies everywhere we work.
